Provenance
Lot EssayA close friend of Mr. Grey's for years, legendary actor Larry Hagman portrayed J.R. Ewing in Dallas in all 357 episodes of the original show from 1978 to 1991. In the melodramatic series finale, J.R. Ewing is visited by a spirit (played by Mr. Grey) who shows him what life would be like without him around; this spirit ends up being a devil and (potentially) convinces J.R. to kill himself. Joel recalled that Larry called him one day and said: "They have a script where they want you to kill me. And I said 'I'll do it -- I love you, but I'll do it!'".
